An Art Deco gem in the public eye
Since its construction in 1930, the Immeuble Assayag has held a place apart in the landscape of Casablanca. Its three Art Deco towers, its unmistakable silhouette and the signature of Marius Boyer make it a subject of study and admiration that never wanes. Journalists, researchers and photographers turn regularly to this remarkable witness to Moroccan architectural heritage — to its great verrières (the tall glazed screens) flooding the stairwells with light, to its terraces open to the city, to its highly characteristic lines and curves.
This interest also has to do with the very nature of the place: the Assayag is not a monument frozen in time, but a lived-in residence full of life, where exhibitions, film shoots and cultural events take place. Nearly a century after it was built, the building goes on writing its history.
