The Casatalogue is the exhibition by artist Alexis Manchion, the outcome of his artist residency at Central 88, the artists’ residency based in Casablanca’s Central Market. It was shown in the basement of the Assayag building (staircase A), with the support of the Institut français. The opening took place on Thursday 22 February 2024 from 6 pm; the poster announces the show from 22 to 29 February, and it was still welcoming visitors in early March, with a guided tour over the weekend of 2 and 3 March.
The artist describes it as a story of objects, of everyday products and of a very particular market, with the people who bring it to life — and as an adventure exploring a “small” part of art history.
In the cellars, red light strips trace the corridors; prints hang on the whitewashed walls, one room is lined with images of consumer products, and the still lifes of the series stage a crab, a piece of fruit, shells, grapes or a jar of “curcuma beldi”.
