For several months, the Assayag lived as a building site. These photographs were taken from within the building itself: from a balcony, from a terrace, looking up at the tops.
November 2025, the balconies. Ropes come down from the roof and pass in front of the floors; materials go up on a pulley. The masonry parapets are stripped back, and the mortar is mixed on the spot, in tubs set on the balcony floor. Seen from above, a rope crosses the courtyard over the glass-block slabs of the garage.
February 2026, the tops. Beneath the planks and render that clad the upper part of the blocks, hollow bricks appear, and the rounded nose of a slab shows its spalled concrete. Ladders stay propped from one level to the next; materials go up on a rope. On 23 February, a band of new render, still grey, already closes the top of one block.
Less than three weeks later, the façades of the inner street had been repainted: the album “The inner street” shows the same wall before and after.
