Alex Bego

Resident & author of the site

Photographer and researcher, resident of the Immeuble Assayag. I document the life and the architecture of the residence from the inside.

I live in the Immeuble Assayag, in Casablanca. This site was born there: from the wish to tell, from the inside, the story of a building people photograph from the street without ever crossing its threshold. The staircases, the glass roofs, the terraces and the people who live with them deserved better than a silhouette on a postcard.

A photographer, researcher and publisher, based in Morocco since 2010, I work under the name Alex Bego. I lead photographic walks through Casablanca and I founded Morocco24x7, where I write regularly about the history and culture of the country.

I speak Russian, French, English and Arabic — which makes it possible to read Casablanca from several points of view at once, and to cross-check sources: archives, works on the history of architecture, and the memories of neighbours.

On this site I publish the history of the building, its architecture, its events and the life of its residents. If you hold archives, photographs or memories connected to the Assayag, write to me: they belong here.

Let’s work together

This site — its design, its writing, its development — is my own work. I do the same for others, private clients and companies alike.
